The Task
The owner of the vessel “Diogenis V.” wanted to completely renovate the vessel with a new aluminum superstructure, an extension of 5 meters, installation of new and upgraded machinery and electronics and new interiors and cabins.
A major goal was also to give her a new and distinctive exterior styling.
It was also important to fix the vessel’s structural deficiencies and upgrade her to a SOLAS passenger vessel of ABS class.
The Challenge
The vessel was operating as a cruise ship for many years and she had already started to show her age.
We had to overcome major structural deficiencies including misaligned and dislocated beams, cemented decks, extensive corrosion and old equipment that were prone to failure.
The Outcome
A completely renewed SOLAS and ABS certified passenger vessel with an extended lifespan, new machinery and upgraded features that make her attractive and welcoming for the guests of the company’s cruises.
PROCESS
THE PROCESS
How we rectified damages and structural deficiencies, rebuilt and upgraded the vessel 'Diogenis V' to 'Harmony V', a S.O.L.A.S and ABS certified cruiser.
01. | Survey
We went through rigorous and extensive structural integrity assessments, calculations and feasibility studies so we could ensure the Owner that the project was feasible, cost effective and safe to execute.
02.| New Design
We drafted new designs and proposals with General Arrangement drawings and renders to help the Owner visualize the final outcome of the refit.
03.| Removals
After the new design and scope was approved by the Owner, it was time to remove all rusted and old structural elements from the vessel.
04.| New Superstructure
While the removals of the old structural elements was underway, a new aluminum superstructure was being built on the dock of the shipyard.
05.| New Machinery
As the reconstruction of the hull and the superstructure was progressing, we installed several new machinery and marine equipment, upgrading the ship to higher standards.
06.| Length Extension
The AFT of the ship was extended by 5 meters adding a platform for shower and easy access for her passengers to the sea when stopped for swimming.
